Raffia Stool

This stool is a collaboration between myself and carpenter Chris Gabe, crafted in the rugged landscape of Alpedrinha, south of the Serra da Gardunha mountains in Portugal. It is carved from reclaimed ash, and finished with a clay oil varnish to help repel insects.

For the seat, I sourced local raffia, soaking and twisting it into twine to create the woven surface, using the timber structure as the loom. The Raffia Stool embodies resourcefulness, collaborative craftsmanship, and a deep connection to place.
