The Linen Blinds

This project evolved from a larger commission at The Exchange, where I designed, prototyped, and taught volunteers to weave bespoke window blinds for the entire building (see here).

While the original handwoven blinds are an ongoing, long-term endeavour, I developed this alternative approach using linen fabric instead of yarn, maintaining the same design principles while significantly reducing production time.

Each room features a unique colour combination, with some blinds designed for blackout use and others allowing a soft, glowing effect that highlights the seams and structural elements. These fabric blinds still require skill and craftsmanship but offer a more accessible and cost-effective alternative to the handwoven versions.
